Every summer, the Serbian capital celebrates a gastronomic event in honor of the fish and the Danube River. The “Belgrade Fish Fest” brings together some of the region’s top fish chefs and restaurants for four days of cooking, eating, drinking and animation. Every day focuses on a different type fish preparation while the diverse music programme offers a variety of concerts and music performances.
Fish dishes, music and good atmosphere can all be found at the historically and geographically unique location, at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers, very close to the Kalemegdan Fortress and the Nebojsa Tower. At the beginning of the 15th century this place was called “Water Town” and it consisted of a small fish and handicraft market and water mills.
Of course, the main attractions here are the various stands cooking up fish-based dishes for the general public, which are prepared in enormous pots to be tasted by the many visitors that come to Festival to enjoy cuisine exhibitions, cooking shows, competitions and music. It’s the perfect way to enjoy an open air festival next to the river enjoying the views and good food.
